Landscape painter Bruce Peil is offering a three-day
workshop at his studio in Athens Texas November 14--16. The
fee for all three days is $350. A maximum of 15 students
will be accepted. This will be a combination of Plein-air
and studio work with the emphasis on learning to capture a
moment in time and the feeling of light in the painting.
While using a limited primary palette, you will learn to mix
the subtle colors that occur in nature and understand how
you did it. You will learn when to "Paint what you see, not
what you think you know", and when to "Paint what you know
will make a better painting, not what you see."
Other concepts you will learn is how a painting is a
building process with each piece of color directly relative
to what came before it.
Bruce and his wife Stacey operate a Bed and Breakfast
/
Artist Retreat that is a short walk from the studio.
Reduced rates apply for those who want to stay here on the
property. The rooms have been reduced from $135 per night to
$90 per night, which includes breakfast, lunch, and
complimentary wine in the evening after class.
A partial deposit is not required. Instead the full $350
should be sent to reserve your place in the work shop. If
the workshop does not make, your original check will be
returned in full. A material list will be sent after sign
up. You can go to
